We are a country RV Park located in the small town of Elkhart in Anderson County. With a population of just over 1300, it’s a quintessential small town and has a school, churches, post office, convenience stores and pizza shop. Elkhart is the childhood home of Jeff Wilson, NFL Running Back for the San Francisco 49ers.
About 5 miles away is Palestine, which is home to the famous Dogwood Trail Celebration. If you like architecture and history, Palestine has over 1800 buildings on the National Historic Register – more than any other town in Texas except Galveston.

Dogwood Trails Celebration near Palestine Texas RV Parks
People come from all over the region for the annual blooming of dogwood trees. The delicate blossoms are a sight to see and Palestine is home to The Texas Dogwood Trails Celebration–one of the biggest dogwood events in Texas. The Celebration occurs the last two weekends in March and first weekend in April. We invite you to meander through Davey Dogwood Park where you can take in the scenery while enjoying perfect spring weather.
Palestine also hosts The Dogwood Festival, which occurs on the first weekend of the Dogwood Trails Celebration. It includes art, food vendors, concerts, craft vendors and more.
Besides Davey Dogwood Park, there are several other parks in the area where you can observe spring blooms including Palestine Community Forest, Reagan Park and Gus Engling Wildlife Management Area, which is home to 10,000 acres of nature where you can hunt, hike fish and bird watch year-round.
Spring at Gus Engling Wildlife Management Area (GEWMA)
GEWMA is a wildlife research and demonstration area for the Post Oak Savannah Ecoregion. It’s home to over 1,000 plant species and in spring, dogwoods and wildflowers bloom in abundance. According to GEWMA’s website, “Vegetation present in the uplands includes a dense overstory of oak, hickory, elm, and gum with a shade tolerant understory of flowering dogwood, American beautyberry, greenbriar, farkleberry, yaupon, possumhaw, dewberry, and hawthorn. Some dominant forbs include tickclover, wildbean, goldenrod, and doveweed. Common wetland plants include yellow lotus, common duckweed, sedges, rushes, pondweed, giant cutgrass, and plumegrass.”
If visiting, be on the lookout for venomous snakes! Also, visitors seventeen years of age and older must possess either an Annual Public Hunting (APH) Permit or Limited Public Use (LPU) Permit to utilize the WMA.
