East Texas Adventure
Songbird RV Park is your home base for exploring all the area has to offer.
Ready for a trip filled with scenic drives, historic sites and southern hospitality? You’ve come to the right place! Our new RV park is in the small town of Elkhart, Texas about five miles south of Palestine where travelers “Come for the Dogwoods, but Stay for the Hospitality” (Texas Highways Magazine)
A trip here is as busy – or relaxing – as you want it to be. Those who enjoy history and architecture can appreciate over 1800 recognized historic places in Palestine. In fact, the only other city in Texas that has more buildings on the National Register of Historic Places is Galveston!
Plus, there are outdoor adventures, festivals, museums, restaurants, shopping and more. Get all the latest information at www.visitpalestine.com.
We’ve highlighted a few of our favorites:
- Texas Dogwood Trails Celebration – This long-time celebration takes place the last two weekends in March and first weekend in April. Enjoy the delicate beauty of the dogwood trees at Davey Dogwood Park and take part in The Dogwood Festival, which is the longest running Dogwood Festival in Texas. There’s live music, art, specialty products, food vendors, kids activities and more.
- Hot Pepper Festival – Everything’s hotter in Texas! The festival is in October each year and includes a parade, hot pepper eating contest, street dance and more. And of course, there’s delicious, spicy food provided by local and regional vendors.
- Christmas in Palestine – The town is decked in twinkling lights and there’s a festive spirit in the air. The season is filled with family activities, events and decorations that capture the holiday season. One of the highlights is The Polar Express™ Train Ride where you’ll “read along with the story as the historic steam strain makes its magical round-trip from the Palestine Depot to the North Pole. Meet Santa and enjoy caroling, hot cocoa, a treat and a special gift for each child.” But it’s not just fun for the kids! Adults can enjoy an orchestra concert, Candyland Market, Wine Swirl and more.
- Texas State Railroad – Step back in time as you board this historic steam train. You’ll journey through the Piney Woods of East Texas and take in beautiful scenery and learn the area’s history on this 4-hour adventure. Great for couples, families and anyone wanting to sit and relax for a while!
